Dake, Merle E. (Thompson) (19 JAN 1922 - 3 OCT 2013)

Merle E. Dake, 91, of Country Gardens Assisted Living, Medford, a former Town of Chelsea resident, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Country Gardens Assisted Living, Medford, where she had resided for the past 18 months most recently under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care Hospice of Wausau.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 9 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Whittlesey, with Rev. Randal Jeppesen officiating. Interment will be at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery, Whittlesey.

Pallbearers are Kris Davis, Lester “Lessie” Dake, Frances Lairson, Tharold “Tig” Lairson, Randall Brosious, and Lori Thompson.

Visitation will be at 9:30 AM until the time of services at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 9 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Whittlesey.

Merle was born on January 19, 1922, at the Town of Medford, to Howard and Dagmar (Ottosen)
Thompson. She attended Medford area schools.

On November 6, 1948, in Dubuque, Iowa, she married Lester E. Dake. He preceded her in death on April 18, 2012.

They moved to Belvidere, IL in 1966 and worked for G.T.E. until retirement in 1984. Moved to the Town of Chelsea in 1984 and resided there until entering Country Gardens in Medford. She worked most of her life as a housewife and mother. She enjoyed reading, knitting, gardening, flowers, canning, crafts and feeding the birds. Merle was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Whittlesey.

Merle is survived by her children, Michael (Judy) Thompson of Medford, Gale (Mary) Dake of Mc Loud, OK, Sharon (Joe) Hodge of Machesney Park, IL; 5 grandchildren, Randall Brosious, Frances Lairson, Lester Dake, Susan & Lori Thompson and several great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by a brother, Charlie (Delores) Thompson of Menomonee Falls, WI.

Merle is predeceased by her parents, Howard and Dagmar (Ottosen) Thompson, and brothers Holger, Kenneth & Martin Thompson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in her name to Trinity Lutheran Church, Whittlesey.
