Hamann, Dorothy M. (Stolp) (31 MAY 1923 - 3 APR 2014)

Dorothy M. Hamann, 90, of 135 S. Gibson Street, Medford, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014, at the Memorial Nursing and Rehab Center, Medford, where she had resided for the past 5 years.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 8 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Whittlesey, with Rev. Randal Jeppesen officiating. Interment will be at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery, Whittlesey.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kristin Esswein; Rex and Bill Hamann; Active pallbearers will be JoAnn Buksa-Otto, Richard Hamann, Barb and Bob Halverson, Marvin Kuenne and John Stolp.

Visitation will be held at 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday, April 7 at the Hemer Funeral Home, Medford and also from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 8 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Whittlesey.

Dorothy was born on May 31, 1923 in Valders (Manitowoc County) to Gustave A. and Olive C. (Tappen) Stolp. She attended grade school at Pleasant Heights School in Medford and Hillcrest School in the Town of Chelsea. She graduated from Medford High School in 1940.

On September 8, 1945, she married Walter “Walt” W. Hamann. He preceded her in death on August 30, 2003.

She took a temporary job with the ASC office and later went to Chicago where she worked for four years for the Home Insurance Company as a bookkeeper. After their marriage, the Hamann’s farmed in the Town of Medford from 1946-1977 when they sold all but four acres of their farm on which they built a new home. Dorothy worked for Black Bear Inn and in the bakery at Holiday Village, retiring in 1980. She enjoyed bowling, crafts, quilting, crocheting, gardening and shopping. Dorothy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Whittlesey, where she was also a part of the Trinity Ladies Aid.

Dorothy is survived by two sons, Wayne (Shirley) Hamann of Medford and Donald (Sheila) Hamann of Tucson, Arizona; grandson Dwayne (Sheila) Hamann of Medford’ great grandson McKay D. Hamann of Medford.

She is preceded in death by her husband Walter “Walt” W. Hamann; her parents Gustave A. and Olive C. (Tappen) Stolp; daughter, Diane Hamann; 2 grandsons: Paul and Dale Hamann; and a daughter-in-law Christine Hamann.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made in Dorothy’s name to the Trinity Lutheran Church, Whittlesey.
