A Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) native, Navy Doctor Jerome A. Behrens, has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V" for his service in Vietnam.

Dr. Behrens received his medal for service with the Third Marine Division from November 1967 to July 1968. Three separate acts of bravery and leadership are included in his citation.

He established an efficient battalion aid station for the treatment of the wounded Marines and supervised the construction of a bunker capable of withstanding the most intense mortar and rocket fire.

On numerous occasions, during enemy rocket attacks, he exposed himself to hostile fire while directing the movement of casualties to safety.

In January 1968, while traveling with a truck convoy, the Marines with whom he was serving were ambushed by the Viet Cong. Disregarding his own safety, Dr. Behrens moved among the wounded, treating them and assisting in their evacuation.

Dr. Behrens is now assigned to the Naval Dispensary in Seattle, Wash. He is married to the former Mary L. Bryant of Durand.

A 1959 graduate of Greenwood High School, Dr. Behrens was graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1962. He received his medical degree from the University's Medical School in 1966.

Dr. Behrens entered the Navy in July 1967, and holds the commissioned rank of lieutenant.
