Junior Kiwanian Lexi Opelt (February - 2017)

February Junior Kiwanian

Lexi Opelt

As a long-standing feature of the Neillsville Kiwanis Club, the Junior Kiwanian program has always focused on the achievements of stand-out senior students as they prepare to transition into the next stage of their lives. Supporting youth and helping to ensure they have the resources to succeed is a primary mission of Kiwanis.

The club is pleased to welcome Lexi Opelt as the Junior Kiwanian for February. She is the daughter of Doug and Lori Opelt and will be participating in the Monday meetings during the month. She was introduced to members by club secretary Herman Seebandt at the Feb. 6 Meeting.

This well-motivated student has achieved an exceptional high school resume. She combines a strong academic background with athletic accomplishments, extra-curricular activities, and a commitment to volunteering at the community level.

Academic honors include membership in the National Honor Society, academic letters, student council and class treasurer. Opelt has served on the yearbook staff for two years and is the current co-editor. She is a member of the Fine Arts and Spanish clubs, is involved in 4-H, choir and has served on the prom and homecoming committees and volunteered as a tutor.

Athletically, Opelt is a four-year member of the basketball and volleyball squads. This year, she has served as co-captain on both teams.

Her numerous volunteer activities include food pantry, Walk of Hope, youth basketball and volleyball camps, blood drives and church youth group. In addition, Opelt waitresses, and cooks at Schmitty’s on Main, and has been employed by the Neillsville Recreation Department for four years.

Following graduation in the spring, she plans to attend UW-Eau Claire to pursue a degree in elementary education.

The Junior Kiwanian program gives recognition to outstanding students like Lexi Opelt, who have demonstrated strong academic achievement, shown good leadership qualities, and strive to make use of their talents. Through their participation in the Junior Kiwanian program, students are provided an introduction to the concept of a service organization such as Kiwanis, which encourages active participation in the community throughout the lifespan.

The Neillsville club wishes her continuing success in her future endeavors.
