Kilty, Merlin (4 JUL 1935 – 24 FEB 2017)
Merlin Kilty, age 81, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2017 at Clark County
Rehabilitation and Living Center in Owen, Wisconsin.
A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at First
United Church of Christ in Colby. Pastor Teri Hanson will officiate. Inurnment
will follow at Colby Memorial Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome from 9:00
a.m. until time of services at the church. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in
Colby is entrusted with the arrangements.
Merlin was born July 4, 1935, the son of Melvin and Mayme (Bandow) Kilty, in
Marshfield. He farmed in the Colby area until 1985. He became an adjuster for
McMillan-Warner Mutual Insurance and worked there until his retirement. He
married Donna Mae Treankler April 8, 1954. They later divorced.
Merlin served on many boards, often holding an officer position. He strongly
believed in the value of education. He served on the Hillcrest Grade School
Board, Colby School Board, Clark County Area School Board Association, CESA No.
6 Board of Control, Wisconsin School Board Association, Wisconsin
Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control and the National School
Board Association. He also served on the Board of Directors for Farm Business
Association, Trinity Lutheran Church Council, McMillan-Warner Mutual Board of
Directors and Abbotsford City Council.
Merlin is survived by his children: Debbie (Ron) Johnson of Batesville, IN, Mike
(Cheryl) Kilty of Abbotsford, Patrick (Debbie) Kilty of Colby and Mark (Bev)
Kilty of Colby; ten grandchildren: Amanda (Justin Irwin) Johnson, Jake Johnson,
Jen (Brad) Schumacher, Jeremy (Jess) Kilty, Sabrina Bruehling, Miranda (Bryan)
Miranda, Jonathan Kilty, Benjamin Kilty, Krystale (Brandon) Bruesewitz, and
Kirsten Miller; and thirteen great grandchildren: Landon, Hailey, Rylan,
Cadence, Cameron, Chael, Hayden, Lamea, Carter, Braedan, Savana, Breckin and
Boston.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law Miriam and
Harley Johnson and his former wife.
