Ostling, Janice Geraldine (Whitney) (30 DEC 1939 - 26 FEB 2017)
Janice G. Ostling, 77, was born on December 30, 1939, in Lincoln, Nebraska,
passed away peacefully Feb. 26, 2017, after a brief illness, with her daughter
and Son-In-Law by her side.
Born Geraldine Janice to Herbert and Ruth (Shepherd) Whitney. She was raised in
Catawba, Wi. She then attended airline school in Omaha, Neb., before working in
Milwaukee.
She married John “Jasper” Ostling. They made their home in Kennan for a time
until she moved, with her daughter to Prentice to live with her In-Laws while
her husband was in the military service.
Janice raised and doted on her daughter Patricia (Victor) Rabehl, Ogema, and her
son Michael Ostling. She participated in numerous school activities including
teaching “Artex” to children after her kids were out of grade school. She worked
with and led the Prentice Pioneer 4H Club and chauffeured kids (hers and others)
delivering the Milwaukee Journal newspaper. Janice worked part time as a
bookkeeper at the Prentice Midland Gas Station and the Prentice Coop.
After she was divorced she made her home in Hawkins where she worked at Jeld-Wen
until her retirement. She then made her home in Ogema to be with her daughter
and Son-In-Law.
Janice enjoyed Country Music Festivals, traveling with friends and had a
voracious love of reading which she passed on to her children.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Pat (Vic) Rabehl, Ogema, by 1
grandson Sheldon Rabehl, by 1 granddaughter Jessica L. Ostling, by her Mother
Ruth (99) by her Mother-In-Law Mary Ostling by 1 sister Cora (James) Schultz and
numerous nieces, nephews, and their families.
She was preceded in death by her Father Herbert Whitney, by her son Michael, by
1 grandson Scott L. Rabehl, by 1 sister Janet G. Prohaska, and by her
Father-In-Law Clarence Ostling.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
