Schlais, Lawrence L. Jr. (8 MAR 1927 - 21 FEB 2017)
Lawrence L. Schlais Jr. 89, of W3064 County Road C, Medford, passed away on
Tuesday, February 21 at Golden Living-Continental Manor Nursing Home, Abbotsford
where he had resided for the past 4 months.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 25 at Immanuel
Ev. Lutheran Church, Medford where there will also be military rites performed
by the Medford Area Military Honors Team, with Rev. James Krueger officiating.
Interment will be at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Jacob, Adam and Luke Korth, Lee Schlais,
Tyler Griepentrog and Eric Zielke.
Visitation will be at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Medford from 9 AM until the
time of services at 11 AM on Saturday, February 25.
Lawrence was born on March 8, 1927, at home in the Town of Bern, Marathon
County, to Lawrence L. and Ella Elizabeth (Busche) Schlais, Sr. He attended Gad
Elementary School and was a graduate of Medford High School.
On June 10, 1950, at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Medford, he was married to
Betty J. Knorr. She preceded him in death January 5, 2009.
After his education, he entered the US Army and was a veteran of WW II. After
the service, he farmed in the Townships of Browning & Deer Creek for many years
until retirement. He enjoyed farming, dancing, polka music, gardening, hunting
and fishing. Lawrence was a member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Medford,
Life Member of the Stetsonville American Legion and the North American Hunting
Club.
He is survived by his children, Peggy (Darrell) Korth of Fort Atkinson, Larry (Wenda
Schwoch) of Minneapolis, Lenard (Pat Short) and Donna (Darwin) Zielke both of
Medford, Irene (Greg) Griepentrog of Marshfield; 11 grandchildren; 12 great
grandchildren.
Lawrence is also survived by siblings, Harold Schlais, Abbotsford, Galen (Grace)
Schlais of Medford, Marvel Jean (Merlin) Kobs of Spencer; Sisters-in-law: Jenny
Knorr of Marion, North Carolina and Margaret Schlais of Wausau.
He is predeceased by his wife, Betty J. (Knorr); his parents, Lawrence L. and
Ella Elizabeth (Busche) Schlais, Sr.; siblings Glen & Patricia Schlais;
Brothers/Sisters-in-law: Jeanette (Bud) Wedeman, Grace (Herme) Pagel, Roy (Cordy)
Knorr and Reuben Knorr.
With Lawrence being a farmer who loved to watch things grow, please plant a tree
