Nowicki, Walter Peter (22 SEP 1926 - 5 MAR 2017)
Walter Peter Nowicki, 90, of Lublin, passed away at his home on Sunday, March 5,
2017.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Thorp
Funeral Home, in Thorp, WI. Richard Pulcher will officiate and burial will
follow in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery, in Lublin. Military rites will be
conducted by the Abramowicz-Kacmarczyk-Cwikla American Legion Post #547.
Visitation will be held at Thorp Funeral Home, on Saturday, from 9:30am until
time of service.
Walter Peter Nowicki was born on September 22, 1926 in the Town of Reseburg,
rural Thorp, to Thomas and Stella (Wittek) Nowicki. He was raised on the family
farm until his family moved to Chicago, IL, where he completed his education,
graduating from Englewood High School.
He entered the United States Army on February 9, 1945 and served until his
honorable discharge on December 2, 1946. Walter returned to Illinois and
attended Photography School and later held various jobs in the Chicago area. It
was there that he met his future wife, Dolores Bak, and they were later married
on October 1, 1949 at St. Hedwig's Catholic Church, in Thorp, WI. Dolores died
on August 2, 1988.
Walter continued to live in Chicago until moving to Lublin in 2001 to live with
his son, Joe. He resided in Lublin until the time of his death.
Walter had many interests, but especially enjoyed fishing, woodworking and
photography. He was a member of the Lublin American Legion Post #547.
He is survived by his son: Joseph T. Nowicki of Lublin; one granddaughter:
Vanessa Matuszewski of Chicago; one great-granddaughter: Madison Walowski of
Chicago; one sister: Lillian Nisbet of California; nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dolores; one brother:
Joseph Nowicki; and one sister: Florence Krol.
