Ostrowski, Janet "Jan" L. (Wieland) (13 MAY 1930 - 2 MAR 2017)

Janet "Jan" L. Ostrowski, 86, Wausau, died Thursday March 2, 2017 at her home, under the care of her family and Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

She was born May 13, 1930 in Wittenberg, daughter of the late Ernest and Ruth (Wichman) Wieland. On July 30, 1949, she married Rupert Ostrowski at Holy Family Catholic Church, Wittenberg. He preceded her in death April 20, 2007.

Through the years, Jan was an involved member at The Church of St. Anne where she volunteered and organized many different functions; among them, she helped with fish fries as an egg peeler, made baptismal gowns, served as past president of the Fatima Council, served on the Parish Council and up until the present, was the coordinator of funeral dinners. In 2000, she received the "Women of Light" award from the Diocese of LaCrosse. Her volunteer efforts continued in places such as Marywood Convalescent Center, at the former St. Mary's Hospital and Wausau Hospital. She was involved in Girl Scouts and for many years, the Ostrowski's also allowed the Boy Scouts use of their land for cutting wood. Jan loved playing cards especially with her group at the Hiawatha. During the summer she enjoyed being outside on the patio surrounded by her flowers and listening to Brewer games.

Jan had been employed at St. Mary's Hospital, Wausau Hospital, Wausau Medical Center and retired from the YWCA as Director. She was also a Charter Member of the Maple Hill Credit Union.

Survivors include five children, Bruce (Bonnie) Ostrowski, Wausau, Sister Susan Ostrowski O.P., Redwood City, Calif., Michael (Jamie) Ostrowski, Wausau, Mark (Marilyn) Ostrowski, Wausau, Sharon Ostrowski, Wausau; three grandchildren, Michelle (Dan) Stokkers, Megan (Bill) Schmelzer and Mallory (Colin) Butler; two great grandchildren, Harrison and Crosby Schmelzer; three sisters, Patricia (John) Seefeldt, Minocqua, Ruby (Arnold) Arent, Tigerton and Joan (Howard) Curtis, Tigerton, two half-brothers, Wallace and Everet; four half-sisters, Doreen, Betty, Kathy and Margaret.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Lehman and a half sister, Elsie.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Noon Tuesday March 7, 2017 at The Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Rev. Alan Burkhardt will preside. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Wittenberg.

Friends may call on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

There will be a parish vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Sixth Street funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Church of St. Anne or Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
