Meyer, Raymond “Ray” F. (18 FEB 1927 - 15 MAR 2017)
Raymond “Ray” F. Meyer, 90, of Medford, passed away on Wednesday, March 15 at
his residence in the Town of Little Black under the loving care of his family
and Hope Hospice.
The funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 20 at Holy Rosary
Catholic Church, Medford, where there will also be military rites performed by
the Medford Area Military Honors Team. Father Phil Juza will officiate and
interment will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, Medford. Pallbearers will be
Steve & Mike Kauss, Al Kasparek, Matt Gengler, Russ Jari, Chad Sebold.
Visitation will be at the Hemer Funeral Home, Medford from 4-7 PM Sunday, March
19 where there will be a 7 PM Catholic prayer service held; also from 10 AM
until the time of services at 11 AM on Monday, March 20 at the church.
Ray was born on February 18, 1927, at Medford, to John and Agnes (Pritzl) Meyer.
He attended Holy Rosary School, Medford and was a graduate of Medford High
School. On September 16, 1952, he was married to Rosalie M. Baumer. She preceded
him in death January 21, 2013.
He entered the US Army in 1946, serving in Guam & Iwo Jima. Ray was discharged
in 1947 with the rank of Sergeant. He worked for Taylor Co. Highway Dept. as a
truck driver from May 1947 until Oct. 1950. In Nov. of 1950 he was called back
into the Army and served in Korea from Dec. of 1950 until Oct. of 1951, being
discharged with the Korean Service Medal with 3 Battle Stars. From 1952 to 1956
he worked for the Medford Co-op & the Medford Electric Utility. From 1956 to
1965 he worked as a milk delivery man for Parkin’s Ice Cream Co. in Medford. In
June of 1965, he started working for the Taylor Co. Sheriff’s Dept. as a
jailer-dispatcher and was later promoted to Sheriff’s deputy & patrolman in
1966. In 1969 he was promoted to the rank of Chief Deputy & held that position
until retirement in 1988.
The Meyer family has lived on a hobby farm in the Town of Little Black since May
of 1956. Ray was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford, a Life Member
of the Medford VFW, and a Retired member of the WI Sheriffs & Deputy Sheriffs
Association.
Ray is survived by his children, Dale (Tammy) Meyer; Diane (Al) Kasparek; Sue
(Matt) Gengler; Virginia (Russell) Jari; Barb (Steve) Kauss, of Green Bay;
eleven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his wife Rosalie; parents John and Agnes (Pritzl) Meyer;
siblings Joe, John, Edward “Scotty”, Fr. Bernard, twins - Lawrence and Leon
Meyer; Margaret Danen, Marie Hayden and Regina Querin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be given to
the family for a future designation.
