Blancher, Mr./Mrs. Harold (Gold – 21 NOV 1971)

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Blancher of Seattle, Washington, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were greeted by 400 guests at Horizon House, a retirement residence at 900 University Street, where they now reside, and later a dinner for 40 relatives and close friends was given by their children.

Harold and Bessie (Bucker) Blancher was born in the last of the 19th century and graduated from Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.) High School in 1914 and 1916. Bessie graduated from Oshkosh State Normal in 1920 and taught school in Kenosha and Tacoma, Washington, before retiring to raise her family. She is a sister of Harold and Billy Tucker of Loyal. Harold went to Marquette University and became a pharmacist, having worked at the Loyal Drug Store from age 12 through high school. He became the youngest druggist in Wisconsin in 1917. He worked at Sniteman Drugs for 18 months, and then returned to further schooling at Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. He served in France in the First World War. He later left the drug business to become a banker, retiring as a Vice President of Seattle Trust and Savings.

Harold and Bessie were married November, 21, 1921. They are parents of two children, a daughter, Shirley, who teaches nursery school in Seattle, and one son, Robert, who is a children's dentist. They have seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Harold and Bessie are both in excellent health. They keep busy working with UNICER, at the blood bank, with their church, which is the University Congregational Church, and last year were program chairmen at Horizon House. Bessie loves sewing and Harold works with stones for jewelry in the lapidary. They have traveled extensively throughout the United States, and in the past few years toured Europe, particularly Spain, where a granddaughter lives, and England, where they were pleased to visit with relatives of the Tuckers. For Christmas this year, they traveled to Wisconsin to visit relatives and friends and see again the place of their youth.
