Embke, Eugene Melvin (23 July 1941 – 17 March 2017) With Flag
Eugene Embke, 75, of Humbird died Friday, March 17, 2017, at St. Joseph’s
Hospital in Marshfield.
Eugene Melvin Embke was born July 23, 1941, in Black River Falls, the son of
Herman and Nina (Gates) Embke. He attended Neillsville High School and served in
the Army National Guard 32nd Division for many years and was called to active
duty during the Berlin Crisis from Oct. 15, 1961, to Aug. 10, 1962. He was
united in marriage to Anita D. Thompson Jan. 12, 1963, in Neillsville. Gene was
a truck driver for Mathy Construction for many years. When he left Mathy, he
went to work for Fort McCoy. He retired in 2003.
Gene enjoyed dancing, bird watching, and his cats. First and foremost, though,
he loved going on road trips with his daughter.
He is survived by his wife, Anita; a daugher, Genita Embke of Humbird; two
brothers, Ron (Nancy) Embke of Neillsville, and Delbert (Judith) Embke of
Merrillan. He is further survived by many nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers Ernest and Darrell.
Funeral services for Eugene will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2017, at
the Gesche Funeral home in Neillsville. Pastor Barbara Knutson will officiate.
Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery with military honors
performed by the Neillsville Veteran’s Council. Visitation will be from 10 to 11
a.m. Thursday at the Gesche Funeral Home.
