Wood, Gerald James Sr. (23 OCT 1942 - 29 MAR 2017)
Gerald James Wood Sr., 74, of Ogema, died at his home while under the care of
his family and Hope Hospice.
He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on October 23, 1942, the son of Carroll and
Margaret Wood. He served his country in the United States Army from 1961 to
1964. He was married to Carol Beck in Burbank, Illinois, on October 17, 1964.
He was employed as an automobile mechanic for most of his working career.
Locally he operated Jerry’s Shell Service in Ogema, and most recently was
employed by Phillips Ford in Phillips until the time of his retirement. He was a
member of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church of Prentice, served with the
Ogema Fire Company for 35 years, and served as an EMT for two years. In 1995 he
was given the gift of life by brothers Fred and Tom with a kidney transplant. In
his free time he enjoyed riding his Gator, spending time in his workshop, and
gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; by three children, Gerald Jr. (Carrie),
Hilton Head Island, SC, Cathy (Rick) Mayrer, Medford, and James (Teri), Oshkosh;
by eight grandchildren, Matthew, Adam, Jack, Seth, Beck, Andrew, Alex, and
Brian; by one great grandchild, Elijah; by two brothers, Thomas (Jeanette), Oak
Lawn, Il and Fred (Donna), Pewaukee, WI; and by one brother-in-law, Ronald
Zabilka.
He is preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Niehoff, Lillian Furgiulle,
and Harriett Zabilka.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, April 7, at Saint John
the Baptist Catholic Church in Prentice with Father Gerald Hagen celebrating the
Funeral Mass. Military Honors will be accorded by the Southern Price County VFW
Post No. 8491. Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Ogema.
Friends may call at the church on Friday, April 7, 2017 from 10:00 A.M. until
the time of services.
