Slowiak, Margaret (10 JAN 1933 – 27 MAR 2017)
Margaret Slowiak, 84, Stanley, died Monday, March 27, 2017 at Homeplace,
Stanley, under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice.
She was born on January 10, 1933, in Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), the daughter of
the late Oscar and Catherine (Heiman) Mertens. She was raised in Thorp and
graduated from Thorp High School in 1952. On June 7, 1955, she married Felix
Slowiak at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Thorp. The couple farmed in the town
of Thorp until 1990, when they retired and moved into Stanley.
She is survived by her brother, Robert (Rosalie) Mertens of Thorp; her sister,
Theresa Westberg of Eau Claire; and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Mertens of Appleton;
and many nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband Felix in 1997; brothers,
Francis, Hugo, Bernard, Father Michael Mertens; and sisters, Dolores Techmeier,
Marcella Nye, Ruth Weix, Helen Koenig, Marie Weix and Catherine Hazuga.
A memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, at Holy Family Catholic
Church, Stanley, with Father William Felix officiating. Interment will be in
Holy Family Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of ser
ice at the church. Plombon Funeral service assisted the family.
