A large, 54 by 74 foot hog barn on the Harlan Schnabel farm, town of York, was
destroyed by fire a week ago Tuesday. The cause of the blaze has not been
determined.
Schnabel said he kept between 60 and 70 brood sows in the building. He turned
most of the animals from the burning building, with feed, but some little pigs
were lost.
Also lost in the blaze was a quantity of lumber and other equipment and tools.
Schnabel suffered injury to his eyes from the dense smoke and hot sparks.
There was some insurance coverage on the loss.
