Emmerich, Vernon L. (14 APR 1929 - 5 APR 2017)

Vernon L. Emmerich, 87, of rural Gilman, died Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at his home under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice.

He was born on April 14, 1929 in the town of Hammel-Taylor County to the late Alfred and Maude (Dodge) Emmerich. Vernon grew up in the area and married Virginia Risch on May 27, 1961 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Athens.

The couple had a farm in the town of Medford where they raised their nine children. Vernon also worked for Hurd Corporation-Medford in the Millwork Dept. for 44 years. After retirement the couple moved to their home west of Gilman. Vernon enjoyed fishing and gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia, eight children, Cynthia (Paul) Newton of Greenville, Jeffrey Emmerich of West Bend, Steven (Kathleen) Emmerich of Frederick, MD, Victoria (Bill) Draeger of Gilman, Barbara (Mike) Harmeyer of Appleton, Daryl Emmerich of River Falls, Greg (Jodi) Emmerich of New Richmond and Gary (Ayumi) Emmerich of
Howell, MI, 17 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and his siblings, Earl (Joanne) Emmerich of Tripoli, Kenneth (Rita) Emmerich, Lorraine Clarke, Glen (Eileen) Emmerich and Roger (Sue) Emmerich all of Medford.

Vernon is preceded in death by his parents and son Bradley.

A memorial service will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, April 12th at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church-Gilman with Father Madanu Lourdu Raju officiating. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery.

A visitation will be at 9:30AM until time of services Wednesday morning at the church.
