Lesnak, Anthony ‘Tony’ (23 December 1922 – 7 March 2017) With Flag
Anthony ‘Tony’ Lesnak, age 94, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017. Tony was born
on December 23, 1922, to John & Frances (Cepon) Lesnak of North Chicago. He was
a lifelong resident of North Chicago and Waukegan, Illinois. He attended Mother
of God School, enjoyed softball, and playing golf.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s KSJK # 53, American Legion, VFW, Knights of
Columbus #731, and St. Dismas Men’s Club. He was the last male member of Hobby
Lobby Social Club and was a Charter Member of WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C.
he was a previous member of Mother of God Church, Immaculate Conception, and a
member of St. Dismas.
Tony was a veteran of WWII having served in both European and Pacific Theatres
with the 342nd Infantry of the Black Hawks 86th Division. He enjoyed attending
the reunions to touch bases with all his buddies from Company M. He was employed
by US Steel and retired after 39½ years of service.
He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law: Robert & Donna Lesnak of
Green Oaks, IL, and John & Terri Lesnak of Joliet, IL. Grandsons: Brian (Kelli)
Lesnak, Kevin (Saya Barkdoll) Lesnak both of Silver Spring, MD, and four
great-grandchildren: Taylor, Ty, Reese, and Ryan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne (Jerina) Lesnak after 65 years of
marriage, his parents, five siblings and their spouses; John & Helen Lesnak,
Frances & Frank Drasler, Mary & Thomas Twardy, Rose & Victor Dietz, Frank &
Theresa Lesnak, nephews William Twardy, and Keith Nurnburg.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, from 8 a.m.- 10 a.m. at St.
Dismas Church, 2600 Sunset Ave., Waukegan, IL. A Mass of the Christian burial
will follow visitation at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Ascension Cemetery. In
lieu of flowers, contributions in Tony’s name may be made to St. Dismas Parish,
2600 Sunset Ave, Waukegan, IL 60085.
Arrangements have been entrusted by the family to Gurnee Salata Funeral Home,
4190 Old Grand Ave, Gurnee, IL 60031.
