The Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.) community was stunned Monday morning to learn of the
death of a pretty high school sophomore, Karen M. Knack of Loyal.
Miss Knack became the fourth Clark County Highway fatality as a result of a near
head on collision of a car and pickup truck about a half mile or so north of
Loyal on Country Trunk K. The crash occurred about 11:15 p.m. near the Lawrence
Ryan and Duane Stutte farms.
Driver of the car in which Miss Knack was riding was Monte Cox, 17, Loyal. A
passenger in the Cox car was Randy Kenneberg, 17, also of Loyal.
The pickup truck was driven by Roger Jacobson, 43, Route 1, Loyal. Passengers in
the pickup truck were Mrs. Jacobson, their daughter, Jeanne, 17, and Lawrie
Beaver, 17, also of Loyal.
The occupants of the car and pickup truck were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in
Marshfield. Clark County Coroner, Bob Lulloff, the death of Miss Knack was due
to internal injuries. She also sustained a fracture of the upper right arm. No
one else in the accident was seriously hurt.
The accident occurred on a slight hill. The Jacobson pickup was traveling north
and the Cox car south. The collision occurred in the northbound lane according
to the investigating officer. A car driven by John A. Olson, Loyal, was
traveling south and there is a possibility Cox was attempting to pass the Olson
car at the time.
