Roehl, Leo C. (9 August 1922 – 23 April 2017)
Leo C. Roehl of Chili was reunited with his wife, Verna, April 23, 2017, at the
age of 94. He was born Aug. 9, 1922, to Herman and Clara (Ackerman) Roehl in the
Town of Fremont, Clark County.
Leo attended Cozy Corner School and Granton High School, graduating in 1941.
After graduation, he farmed with his mother, Clara. Leo married the love of his
life, Verna Grobe April 19, 1947, at Christ Lutheran Church in Chili. They
farmed for over 40 years, retiring in 1988. He also worked for his brother,
Glenn, at the sawmill and worked for 16 years as a driver for a freight company
in Marshfield. Leo was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church. He enjoyed
hunting, working in his flower beds, and fishing, which always included taking
an annual trip with his family. Leo’s two passions in life were playing cards,
especially sheepshead, and rook, and spending time with his grandchildren and
later on his great-grandchildren. He had a cup collection, collecting cups from
wherever Verna and he traveled. Leo will be fondly remembered for his candies;
he always had a box on hand to give to his grandchildren when they came to
visit.
Leo will be missed by his children, Elroy of Chili, Darrel of Neillsville, and
Cheryl (John) Fields of Loyal; his four loving grandchildren, Anel Serenity of
Neillsville, Jeremy (Cassandra) Menke-Fields of Madison, Jessica (Tony) Weber of
Crandon, and Travis (Heidi) Roehl of Neillsville; five great-grandchildren,
Hayden and Gavin weber, Kyler and Alygaeja Menke-Fields, and Jill Roehl; and a
sister, Lila Nelson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Verna; his parents; brothers, Glen, Alvin,
Russell, Walter, Harvey, and Carl; and his sisters, Vera Carstensen, and Evelyn
Roehl.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 27, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Christ
Lutheran Church in Chili with Rev. Dan Schoessow officiating. Burial will follow
at Windfall Cemetery in Granton. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time
of service. Memorials in Leo’s name may be sent to Christ Lutheran Church, W2880
Granton Road, Granton, Wi 54436.
