Gottschalk, Mary V. (Niewolny) (11 JUN 1918 - 5 JAN 2006)

Mary V. Gottschalk, 87, 115 E. Lutz Street, Edgar, died Thursday January 5, 2006 at her home.

She was born June 11, 1918, in Wausau, daughter of the late Leo and Anna (Klavinski) Niewolny. On November 1, 1944 she married Herbert L. Gottschalk in Edgar. He preceded her in death May 22, 1987.

Mary owned and operated the Edgar Beauty Salon from 1952 until retiring in 1982. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, crocheting, knitting and loved to feed the birds.

Survivors include her four children, Paul (Virginia) Gottschalk, Wausau, Judy (Walter) Thurs, Edgar, Brian (Linda) Gottschalk, Wausau, David Gottschalk, Edgar, 12 grandchildren, Paula (Jeremy) Cynkar, John Gottschalk, Stacey (Matt) McDonald, Mary (Jon) Streit, Bradley Gottschalk, Susan (Gary) Reiche, Tim (Candy Forbus) Thurs, Jeffrey (Anne Allmann) Thurs, Dean (Katrina) Thurs, Ryan (Tara Steen) Thurs, Lindsey (Matthias) Roehl and Shannon (fiance, Craig Steif) Gottschalk; three great-grandchildren, Andrew and Derek Reiche and Eliza Thurs; one brother, Lester (Lois) Niewolny, Wausau.

Besides her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her brothers, Arthur, Lawrence and Myron Niewolny.

The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday January 9, 2006 at St. John Catholic Church, Edgar. Rev. Norman Boneck will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar and again on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish rosary service at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the Edgar funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Mary’s name for St. John Catholic School, Edgar.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Rev. Norman Boneck for his words of comfort at the home after her death. Thanks also to Dr. Stoffel, Janet Baumann and the entire staff of the Edgar Clinic. Heartfelt thanks are also extended to Mary’s special friends, Norma Socha and Marcella Thurs, as well as to her special sisters-in-law, Mary Niewolny and Lucille Gottschalk.
