Kollath, Gerald John (13 NOV 1935 - 26 APR 2017)
Gerald John Kollath, age 81, of Abbotsford, passed away on Wednesday, April 26,
2017 at his home.
A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 1, 2017 at Christ
Lutheran Church in Abbotsford. Rev. Don Bruce will officiate. Burial will follow
at Abbotsford Public Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be T.J. Stroinski, Nate Schreiber, Todd Kramer, Ken Stohkirch,
Gordon Jensen and Harold Amacher.
Family and friends are welcome from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service
Monday at the church. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is
entrusted with the arrangements.
Gerald was born to John and Dorthea (Radtke) Kollath on November 13, 1935 in the
Town of Maine, Marathon County. He attended Red Granite Country School and
Wausau Technical College, studying agriculture and machine tool. He was employed
at All Metal Stamping in Abbotsford for 44 years as a tool and die maker.
In April 1958, he was drafted into the United States Army, with basic training
at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Upon graduation, he was transferred to Germany,
where he was part of the 7th United States Army. While there, he attended and
graduated from the 7th United States Army non-commissioned officer’s academy.
After completion of his duty, he was discharged at Fort Sheridan, IL.
Upon his return home, he joined the 32nd Wisconsin National Guard, in October
1961, he was transferred to Fort Lewis, Washington. After 11 months, he returned
home to Abbotsford, when he received his honorable discharge on May 23, 1964.
Gerald was united in marriage on August 6, 1966 to Dona Jane (Mews) Schmidt.
Gerald was a member of Christ Lutheran Church for many years and sang in the
church choir.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dona Jane Kollath; brother; William
(Pat) Kollath, grand-daughter, Christina Amos and grandson, Jerehmia Amos and
two great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Elaine Kollath and a
step-daughter, Debra Kay Amos.
