Schreiber, Carol J. (Mierkey) (4 AUG 1937 - 28 APR 2017)
Carol J. Schreiber, 79, died peacefully while on Friday, April 28, 2017, at
Aspirus Wausau Hospital, while surrounded by her family.
Carol was born to Evan and Clara (Dieken) Mierkey on Aug. 4, 1937, in Ellis,
S.D. She married George Schreiber at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Milan.
Carol ran a ceramic business out of her home and it was one of her favorite
pastimes. She was also an accomplished quilter and an avid reader. She was a
longtime member of the former St. John’s Catholic Church in Wuertzburg, where
she served on the Altar Society. Above all, she loved spending time with her
friends and family.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, George Schreiber; eight children,
George Jr. (Kay Schulz), Colby, Paul (Carmen), Appleton, Dianne Schreiber, Fall
River, Mark (Kathy Bennett) Schreiber, Athens, Phyllis (Jim) Wehinger,
Friendship, Victoria (Larry) Lee, Madison, Matthew (Kelly) Schreiber, Spring
Valley, Mitchell (Eunjoo) Schreiber, Alpharetta, Ga.; 18 grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren; four siblings, Mardella Tautges, Wausau, Evelyn Schmidt,
Marathon, Edith Schoelzel, Benton, Tenn., and Evan Mierkey Jr., Milwaukee; and
many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her son, David; brother, Clarence Mierkey; and
parents, Evan and Clara Mierkey.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at St.
Thomas Catholic Church, Milan. Rev. George Graham presided. Burial was at the
St. John’s Wuertzburg Cemetery. Visitation was held at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral
Home in Athens on Tuesday, May 2, from 4 until 7 p.m., with a prayer service
following at 7 p.m., and again on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of
service at the church.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Aspirus
Wausau Hospital for the wonderful care and support given to Carol..
