Schmitt, Emery J. (28 OCT 1916 - 4 MAY 2017)

Emery J. Schmitt, age 88, of Abbotsford, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at the House of the Dove in Marshfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, May 8, 2017 at St. Mary Catholic Parish in Colby, Father Peter Manickam will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.

Family and friends are welcome from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the church. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the arrangements.

Emery was born on September 12, 1928 the son of Alphonse and Gertrude (Kaiser) Schmitt in the Town of Hull. He attended Riverside School. Emery was united in marriage to Rita Geiger on February 3, 1951 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Abbotsford.

Emery farmed in the Town of Hull, hauled milk for Welcome Dairy and worked at Christensen Feed. He enjoyed polka dancing, going to the casinos and traveling. Most importantly, he cherished his family.

Emery is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rita of Abbotsford; eight children: Ronald (Bonnie) of Colby, Russell (Janet) of Abbotsford, Gloria (Dale) Hass of Kewaskum, Janice (Robert) Weideman, Jr. of Curtiss, Gordon (Debra) of Abbotsford, Gary (Brenda) of Kyle, TX, Alan (Lori) of Colby and Terry (Jean) of Colby; 31 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.

He is further survived by seven brothers and sisters: Mercedes Lang, Germaine (Fred) Redman, Mark (Delores), Mary Ann (Harold) Scanlon, Verjean Kunze, Linus (Joan) and Timothy (Suzie); many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers and sisters: Rita Peterson, Maude Kocian, Naomi Kruse, Carmen Fosdich, Blanche Zera, Roman and Pamela..
