A 24' x 60' machine shed was destroyed by fire on the Hillis Kadolph farm just
east of Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.), Sunday evening about 7 p.m. The fire was
believed to have started when a tractor backfired and fuel spilled on the ground
and ignited. The Loyal Fire Department responded to an alarm and was able to
prevent flames from spreading to the dairy barn only a short distance away.
Destroyed in the blaze were a combine, silo filler, cement mixer, lime spreader,
corn binder, corn husker, many small tools and antiques.
Quick efforts by the Kadolph boys and several neighbors saved the tractors,
grain drill, corn planter and blower. Roger Kadolph, who rented the farm from
his dad, was away for the weekend and returned home about 10 p.m..
