Rehbein, Nancy A. (Erl) (18 FEB 1944 - 3 MAY 2017)

Nancy A. Rehbein, 73, of Menasha, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at home.

Nancy Ann was born on Feb. 18, 1944 in Medford, the daughter of Mildred A. Viergutz and Edward J. Erl. Before life limited her mobility, she was an avid bingo player, fisherman, upholsterer, craft maker, quilter and beautician. After attending school in Medford she obtained a degree from the Eau Claire College of Cosmetology. She went on to own her own salon, Nancy’s Headquarters in Menasha for many years.

Over the course of her career, the single most ‘thing’ she enjoyed was the friendships she made along the way. It may have been just a job for many, but for Nancy it was her joy. In her younger years she was an avid fisherman. She would fish from the banks of the Fox River using a Wolf River Rig never knowing what may nibble on her bait. Nancy personally sent thousands of sheepshead to their final resting place. She stayed home while her son was doing upholstery and hair from her house.

Nancy could find used and abused furniture on street curbs and with a little elbow grease and tender loving care give them a new lease on life. Nancy was not only an avid bingo player, she was a bingo addict. Be it church bingo using corn on cards, Americano’s and Cinderella with magnetic chips and wands or all the various casinos of the upper mid-west. Nancy seemed to have played them all.

Craft making was also a passion of Nancy’s. In her retirement she made many things for many people. She would make custom order quilts, quillos, vests and she would make boxes of knit slippers that were donated to the underprivileged. Nancy married Richard H. Rehbein in Aug. 1967 in Menasha.

Survivors include her husband, Richard; son, Thomas Rehbein; granddaughter, Brittany Driscoll; a brother. Lee Erl, nieces, nephews and many friends she thought of as family.

Nancy lost her beloved sister, Patricia Wall, in Nov. of 2016 and her beloved mother, Mildred Erl, in Jan. 2017. Now pain free and in eternal rest she is reunited with not only the two of them but all of the previously departed as well.

As per her request there will be no service or gathering to take place.

Nancy sent her young son, to Camp Onaway through the Boys and Girls Brigade in Neenah. She always thought that was the best decision she ever made as it had a powerful and lifelong effect on her boy.

Since there is nowhere to send flowers nor any memorial to contribute to, if you would like to honor her please feel free to make a donation to the Camp Fund through the Brigade. I think she would like this very much. Boys and Girls Brigade, 109 W Columbian Ave., Neenah, WI 54956. The family would like to thank the Theda Care Hospice Staff.
