Poncek, Joseph “Bernie” Jr. (8 DEC 1949 - 23 MAY 2017)

Joseph “Bernie” Poncek Jr., 67, of Ogema passed away on May 23 at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau. He was born on December 8, 1949 to Joseph Sr. and Eleanor Poncek. Bernie grew up on the family farm. He worked various jobs throughout his life. In his spare time he was involved with the Special Olympics bowling, visiting people on his four wheeler, and spending time at the senior center. He was a people person and always willing to lend a helping hand.

Bernie is survived by his siblings, Barb Poncek, Mike (Kim) Poncek, Jim (Julie) Poncek, Bruno Poncek, Joyce (Robert) Matyka, Joann (Joe) Leader, Jerry (Jo) Poncek, Cathy (Erhart) Lemke, Willie Poncek, Nancy (Steve) Hamm, Theresa Passehl, Randy Poncek, Bonnie Poncek, Peter Poncek, Tom (Mary Jo) Poncek. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews and many other family and friends.

Bernie is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Jackie Poncek, Ed Poncek, Maggie Sacharske, and Ellen Poncek.

A Funeral Mass for Bernie will take place at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, May 26 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake with Father Otto Bucher officiating; burial will follow at Mt. Olive cemetery in Westboro. Visitation will take place on Friday, May 26 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at 11:00 A.M.

Memorial donations in honor of Bernie can be given to his family, for designation at a later date.

Hemer Funeral Service of Medford and Rib Lake has been entrusted with arrangements.
