Kathy McNeely, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond McNeely, R. 1, Loyal (Clark Co.,
Wis.), is winner of the annual D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolution) at
Loyal High School.
The D.A.R. award is given to a senior in each school of the state, based on the
girl's dependability, her service, her leadership qualities, and her patriotism
to her school, state, and country. Three nominees for the award are selected by
the senior class, and then the faculty chooses the winner. The other girls
nominated were Terri Zupanc and Kathy LaBarge.
After winning, Miss McNeely now takes a test and is eligible to receive a prize
of a $300 savings bond or either a $25 or $15 savings bond for second or third
place. Winner of the state may go on to the national contest, where first prize
is a $1,000 savings bond.
Kathy has been a very active student at Loyal High and elsewhere. She is the FHA
president, the Band president, chorus vice-president, a Student Council
representative, and has been class secretary. She has been involved in drama two
years, forensics for four years, and G.A.A. for three years. She also is a
member of the Spanish club, pep band, and the church choir at St. Anthony's. She
has been a Badger girl and has attended state and national F.H.A. conventions.
She has also been a foreign exchange student to Peru. Kathy is the business
manager of the annual and a helpful elementary school tutor.
