Svoboda, Marie F. (21 APR 1926 – 29 MAY 2017)
Marie F. Svoboda, 91, Cherry Valley, was born to Joseph and Marie (Fanta)
Arbelovsky in Cicero, Illinois on April 21, 1926, and passed peacefully away at
home in Cherry Valley on May 29, 2017. She spent her youth farming near Chili,
Wisconsin, graduating from Loyal High School in 1944. She married Otto Svoboda
on June 28, 1947, and moved to Clark County, Wisconsin. The family moved to
Woodstock in 1956, where Marie worked at Hal Mather and Sons for many years.
Otto and Marie moved to Cherry Valley in 1994. Marie was a member of Grace
Lutheran Church for over 60 years. She will be remembered for being a life-long
Green Bay Packer fan, a wonderful cook, and a delicious Bohemian baker. She will
be dearly missed.
Her beloved family was her pride and joy. Her children are Mary (Doug) Noe of
Union, Kathie (Todd) Freeburg of Cherry Valley, and Joseph (Leslie) Svoboda of
Bellingham, Washington. Her grandchildren are Robert (Carrie) Noe of Naperville,
Lisa (Michael) Gatto of Marengo, Emily (Matthew) Grace of Roscoe, and Laura
(Jason) Matousek of Bartlett. Her great-grandchildren are Benjamin and Brandon
Noe, Maggie Gatto, and Lily and Charlotte Matousek. She is also survived by two
sisters-in-law: Ardith Arbelovsky and Rose Svoboda, and many loved nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Otto, her brothers Joseph and
Frank, her in laws Joseph and Vlasta Kosarek, George Svoboda, Donna Arbelovsky,
her niece, Mary Rose Breseman and her nephew, Scott Arbelovsky.
We wish to give a special thank you for the caring OSF Palliative and Hospice
staff members, especially Whitney, Amy, and Pat.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 3, 2017, at Grace
Lutheran Church, 1300 Kishwaukee Valley Rd. Woodstock, IL. Visitation will be at
10:00 A.M. until time of service on Saturday. Fitzgerald Funeral Home and
Crematory assisted the family. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church,
