Tessar, Darlene A. (23 OCT 1935 – 3 JUN 2017)
Darlene A. Tessar, 81, Kewaskum, passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at Kathy
Hospice in the town of Polk. Funeral services were held at noon on Saturday,
June 10, at Peace United Church of Christ in Kewaskum. Rev. Eric Kirkegaard
officiated. Burial followed at Peace United Church of Christ Cemetery in
Kewaskum.
Darlene Horn was born on Oct. 23, 1935, in the township of Longwood, the
daughter of Hubert and Anna (nee Myrin) Horn. Darlene was a graduate of
Greenwood High School where she was valedictorian of her class. She was a member
of the band, girls glee club, forensics, cheer leader, and member of the annual
staff. After earning a bachelor's degree at the University of
Wisconsin-Whitewater, where she was a member of Delta Sigma Epslion Sorority,
Darlene began her career teaching business classes at Palmyra. She also taught
in Shawano and Brookfield before teaching at Slinger High School from 1969-81.
That year the Slinger yearbook was dedicated to her. She also taught adult night
classes at Moraine Park Technical College where her adult students nominated her
for outstanding teacher of the year. She married Ronald Hall in 1958 and they
later divorced. She then married Wayland Tessar in 1980 at Peace United Church
of Christ in Kewaskum. She and Wayland were very active in outdoor sports like
biking, skiing, golf, and also great Packer Backers. She was also a member of
Peace United Church of Christ.
Survivors include a brother, Gerald (Faith) Horn; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Horn;
a step-son, Jay (Christine) Tessar; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and
Mary Tessar; a sister-in-law, Donna Tessar; nephews Scott (Cheri) Tessar, Mark
(Beth) Tessar, Gary (Rona) Horn, and Jim (Ruth) Brinker; a niece, Angi Horn
Nagle; a step-daughter-in-law, Candi Tessar; and many other relatives and
friends.
Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Wayland; her parents; a brother,
Duane; and her step-son, Dan Tessar.
Memorials are preferred to Peace United Church of Christ or KEYS Club.
A special thank you to Rev. Eric Kirkegaard and Rev. Bob Blackburn for all their
visits and prayers for Darlene. The family would also like to thank the staff at
Kathy Hospice for all their loving care provided to Darlene.
