The deceased was born in Hume, Allegany county, New York, on November 1, 1857,
and is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. Balcom.
She came to Wisconsin with her parents when a young girl. She was married to
Sylvester J. Davis at Kingstone, Wis., on September 1, 1875, to which union four
children were born, all of whom are still living, namely: S. A. Davis, Neenah,
Mrs. R. Marsh, Colby; Mrs. H. Behrens, Colby; Frank Davis, Fontana, California.
They came to this locality in the spring of 1882 and settled on a wild track of
land near Riverside. Here they built a home and fine farm.
They came to Colby in 1911 and here Mr. Davis passed away four years ago.
Besides the children, her death is mourned by one sister, Miss Dora Balcom of
Colby, eleven grand children and one great grand child.
Mrs. Davis was a devoted and faithful wife and mother, was a Bible class teacher
and also served as treasurer of the W. R. C. for many years.
She was a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church and W. R. C. in which
organizations she was very active.
She was very religious, and, while on the farm, walked five miles to attend
church services at Riverside.
