Wasserburger Store Fire (24 APR 1919)
On Thursday afternoon the Wasserburger store was burned out. The fire started in
the basement of the store in some unknown manner and when discovered by Leo
Wasserburger, had gained such headway that when the fire company arrived they
were unable to get at it and do effective work. The flames were controlled to
the store, however, and finally were gotten under control, but not until the
Wasserburger stock of general merchandise was practically ruined. The Seidelman
Hotel and soft drink parlor was also a victim of the blaze, but most of the
furniture and stock was removed The building itself was quite badly damaged, but
will be repaired and put in shape so that the store can resume business at the
old stand in a short time. There was insurance on both the stock and building,
but not enough to cover the loss, it is understood.
