East Lynn (1 May 1919)
Last Saturday morning as Wm. Wagner was taking milk to the cheese factory, he
found a revolver of the latest pattern in the middle of the road, in the exact
center of what is known as Sauerkraut City. Who it was that left said weapon in
such an exposed place, will no doubt forever remain a mystery, but nevertheless,
it was a foolish, likewise dangerous, piece of business. Mr. Wagner has always
been known to be a peaceable and law-abiding citizen, but since he has in his
possession a dangerous piece of artillery, no man can foretell what the outcome
will be. It is stated that on arrival at the factory, he flourished said gun in
a true Jesse James manner and would not put it into concealment until the cheese
maker, H.E. Wordell, had promised to raise his test two points the coming month.
If gossip can be relied upon, he has placed an order with Monkey Sawbuck & Co.,
for a trainload of ammunition and will take daily practice. He also has his
victims listed, Ed. Sternitzky being at the head. Thus far, no casualties have
been reported, but are expected hourly.
Ernest Quicker of Ladysmith spent last week with his brother, Jim, and also
called on old friends and acquaintances. Mr. Quicker lived in this neighborhood
a number of years, but 14 years ago he sold his farm and moved to the above
mentioned place.
Louis Sternitzky expects to raise the framework for an addition to his barn this
week.
Louis Knoop hauled a load of telephone poles from Lynn and will build a line
from the school house corner to his place.
Albert Quicker has accepted a position in a cheese factory on the Ridge.
