Neillsville Boys Coming Home (6 May 1919)
Tuesday a number of messages were received here announcing the safe arrival in
New York of Neillsville boys who have been in Germany and France with the 32nd
Division. The boys had landed in New York on Monday and immediately the
Salvation Army War Department notified the parents and relatives of the boys of
their safe arrival. The boys who landed Monday were Chas. Poole, Henry Hart,
Bert Dux, Jack Regis, Geo. Lastofka, Lyle Heazlett, Floyd Hanson, Joe Cardorelli
and A. Woodcock. They will be detained for demobilization at Camp Mills and this
bunch of boys will be home in a very few days.
On Monday Mrs. Martin received a cablegram from her husband, Major Martin,
stating that he was sailing for home. On Tuesday Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Hommel
received a telegram from Capt. Placido Hommel stating that he had arrived in New
York and no doubt came on the George Washington with the other Neillsville
soldiers. Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Forman received a telegram Monday from their son,
Leland, stating that he would be home in a few days.
