Sewing on the additional stripe of a Technical Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force on
July 1st, 1968, was George L. Himes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Art Himes of rural Owen
(Clark Co., Wis.). Sgt. Himes is a graduate of Owen High School and he attended
college at River Falls prior to his enlistment in the Air Force. He and his wife
and three children reside at Keesler AFB at Biloxi, Mississippi.
Recently Sgt. Himes was honored as Keesler Technical Training Center's
Outstanding Instructor of the Year. In ceremonies at the Center he was presented
an engraved plaque, a $100 Savings Bond, and a letter of Commendation from Major
General James G. McGhee, KTTC Commander. He was honored by the city of Biloxi
with an engraved plaque, gift certificate, honorary citizenship of the City of
Biloxi, and a place of honor in the city's Mardi Gras celebration.
At present Sgt. Himes is a team chief of a two-man team sent from Keesler's
Ground Electronics Department to Strategic Air Command's radar bomb scoring
detachment at St. George, Utah, to teach radar systems modifications. The
course, of three weeks in duration, is designed to prepare graduates to operate
and maintain the new radar equipment recently developed and installed by the
General Dynamics Corporation, Fort Worth, Texas. He will be at the detachment
through the end of July, conducting several courses.
His wife, Valerie, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elton (Jack) Fritz, rural
Owen.
