Saturday evening, May 7, 1977, Abbotsford High School will hold its annual prom.
The dance starts at 8:30 p.m., with the Dave Edwards Orchestra playing in the
school gym. “Nights are Forever” is this year’s theme.
Leading the grand march at 9:30 will be Jackie Apfelbeck, Steve Borgemoen, Russ
Bunkelman, Anita Courchaine, Tom Kiefer (king), Peggy Mantik, Rose Reichersamer
(queen), John Spence, Allen Schreiber, and Darlene York.

The Blooms will open Redwood Friday, May 6, in time to serve those Friday night
fish fry’s.
An announcement will be made later as to the regular hours the supper club will

Law Day U.S.A. was observed Sunday, May 1, 1977 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in
Curtiss, with Clark County police officers and their families as guests. A
potluck dinner was served following services to approximately 100 guests.

Cheryl A. Poehnelt and Garrett J. O’Reilly, both of Milwaukee, were married
Saturday, April 23, 1977 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby.
The Rev. Frank Rushman performed the 1:30 p.m. service. A cousin of the bride,
Mrs. Gary Frey, was organist, and Kris Block was soloist.
Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Leo Poehnelt, Abbotsford, and Mrs.
Margaret O’Reilly, Tullamore, Ireland.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a white organdy over taffeta
gown trimmed with white daisies. Her fingertip veil was held by a Camelot
headpiece. She carried yellow roses and white pompom daisies.
Mrs. Mark Sandow, Rockford, Illinois, was maid of honor. Mona O’Reilly,
Tullamore, Ireland, Dawn Poehnelt, Abbotsford, and Mrs. Larry La Pine,
Milwaukee, were bridesmaids. Their yellow empire gowns featured matching capes
with daisy trim and each wore a hat. They carried baskets of yellow and white
pompom daisies.
Craig Iwinski, Milwaukee, was best man for the bridegroom. Bill Hirsch,
Milwaukee, David Poehnelt and Allen Poehnelt, both of Abbotsford, were
groomsmen.
Completing the wedding party were ushers, Robert and Jerome Poehnelt.
A reception, dinner and dance were held at the Stetsonville Community Center.
The bride, a 1968 graduate of Abbotsford High School, attended the University of
Wisconsin, Marshfield for two years. She is an accounting supervisor for
Hoffman, York, Baker and Johnson in Milwaukee. Her husband is a graduated of the
St. Camillus High School in Ireland and the Angelicuim University in Italy. He
is a supervisor at the First Wisconsin National Bank in Milwaukee.
The couple are on a wedding trip to England and Scotland.

Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Zuber, Route 2, Colby announce the engagement of their
daughter Suzanne, Green Bay, to Ervin Fleisch, Green Bay. He is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Gilbert Fleisch, Route 2, New Holstein.
Miss Zuber graduated from Eau Claire in 1972, and is currently employed as an
IMC Director at Helen Keller Elementary School, Green Bay. Ervin graduate from
UW-Madison in 1973. Since graduation he has been employed as agri-business
instructor at Green Bay West High School.
The couple will be married October 23, 1977.

Paul Firnstahl, Colby, was presented the “Business Person of the Year” award by
members of the Colby High School FBLA club during its banquet last week
Firnstahl, a member of the business education advisory committee, was
instrumental in having his employed give tests to secretarial practice students.
He is an active member of the community and served as president of the Colby
Chamber of Commerce.
Shelba Bauer, FBLA past secretary, presented the award to Firnstahl.

Donald Brendt Nelson, a junior at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Nelson, Abbotsford, has been selected to receive a Ralston
Purina Scholarship Award for the 1977 fall semester, according to an
announcement made in St. Louis by George H. Kyd, division vice president and
director, public relations, Ralston Purina Company.
The scholarship amounts to $650. It is awarded each year to an outstanding
junior or senior in the state universities and land-grant colleges in each of
the 50 states, and in three Canadian agricultural colleges and in Puerto Rico.
Winners are selected at each college by a faculty scholarship committee on the
basis of their scholarship record, leadership, character, ambition in
agriculture and eligibility for financial assistance.
