American Legion Elects (New Commander – 5 June 2017)

Neillsville American Legion Post #73 elected new officers at its June 5 meeting. Bill Riddle is the new commander, with Janice Ladd becoming first vice president and former commander Wendell Kuhn elected as third vice president.
It was announced there will be no Legion Meeting July 3. The next meeting including veterans’ recognition will be Monday August 7.
June 14 was Flag Day and the Legion held a ceremony retiring and burning the used flags.
The Legion will be serving a chicken dinner Sunday, July 9. Serving will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
A call was made to the Heritage Days Committee stating the advertised start of 10:30 a.m. was incorrect. The Legion also asked if the parade start time in the future could be changed to 1:30 p.m., as many members are still in the kitchen helping with the chicken dinner. The Legion float traditionally leads the parade.
The mini-rod pull will be held in front of the Legion Friday, July 7 at 7 p.m. The Legion will be selling beer and brats.
The parade schedule was presented as follows: Neillsville, July 9; Fairchild, Aug. 5; Loyal, Aug. 27; Greenwood, Sept. 9; and Granton, Sept. 10.
The Legion State Convention will be held in Appleton July 13-16.
The Post donated money to Denise Rohan. She is the first woman and the first from Wisconsin to be elected as the National Commander.
The Legion expressed appreciation to the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts for helping with flag placement at the cemetery, to the Neillsville Police Department for re-routing the traffic at the bridge for the Memorial Day program, and to the Neillsville High School Band for their participation.
Don Crothers was recognized for making a new stand for the speaker system.
A news release from the U. S. Veteran Affairs Department was discussed.
Veterans Affairs Secretary Dr. David J. Shulkin announced the modernization of the electro9nic health record.
