Bjornstad, Melvin (18 APR 1900 – 3 OCT 1968)
Melvin Bjornstad suffered a fatal heart attack while sitting in a chair in his
home last Thursday afternoon, October 3, 1968. He was 68 years of age and a
lifelong resident of the city of Owen (Clark Co., Wis.).
Funeral services were conducted from the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home at two
o'clock Monday afternoon, with Rev. Robert Goessling officiating. Burial was
made at Riverside Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Melvin Bartosiewicz, Norman Mitchel, Newell, Wilson,
Lawrence Clark, and Jim Crowley.
Melvin Leonard Bjornstad was born in Owen on April 18, 1900 and educated in the
school system here. He pursued the lumbering industry, having worked for the
John S. Owen Lumber Company, and later Frederick Post Company, until his
retirement several years ago.
On March 30, 1924 he and the former Helga Brandsness were marriage in a ceremony
performed at Stanley. She survives him, as do two sons, Robert, West Allis, and
Marvin of Milwaukee; two daughters, Mrs. Harry (Evelyn) Smith, Milwaukee, and
Mrs. John (Audrey) Schommer, Anchorage, Alaska; two brothers, Arthur of Cadott,
and Selmer of Owen, and a sister, Mrs. Alice Amaling of Flint, Michigan.
