Note: Accident report of Herbert Wilhelmi was originally published in the
Abbotsford Tribune, Thursday, July 7, 1949. The Wilhelmi surname was published
as Welhelmi.
Herbert Welhelmi had a narrow escape Sunday morning about 10:00 O’clock, when he
was struck by a truck while delivering milk.
Mr. Welhelmi had parked his milk truck on the shoulder in front of the grade
school and was standing beside it with a milk bottle in his hand.
Ted Karau has stopped on the south shoulder to give Mr. Welhelmi a message, when
a car going east was being passed by a farm truck driven by Thorwald Fristad,
21, of Milwaukee, then struck Mr. Welhelmi and knocked him face down on the
pavement.
Mr. Karau and Harold Christensen took him to Colby where x-rays showed a
fractured rib and sprained left wrist. His right hand had glass embedded in it
and his right hip was bruised. Mr. Welhelmi was helping on the route again by
Wednesday.
Mr. Fristad paid a fine of $10.00 and costs for driving with insufficient
brakes.
