Sandstrom, Robert L. (7 May 1935 – 10 July 2017) With Flag
Robert L. Sandstrom, known to his friends as “Bob,” passed away July 10, 2017,
at the age of 82. Formerly of Stevens Point, Bob passed away at Pride TLC
Assisted Living in Weston. He was under the care of Ministry Hospice Services,
Wausau.
A native of Gladstone, MI, Bob was born May 7, 1935, to the late Sigward and
Clara (Duchaine) Sandstrom. He proudly served his country as a Medic in the
United States Army during the Korean War. He entered the service Sept. 16, 1954,
in Michigan. He received the Army of Occupation Medal and Good Conduct medal. He
was honorably discharged Aug. 30, 1956. He was transferred to the United States
Army Reserve, serving until Sept. 16, 1962, where he was honorably discharged.
His greatest blessing was when he married Clara Gaura June 22, 1957, in Sobieski,
WI. They made memories in the Stevens Point and Hudson areas, prior to retiring
from his career as an engineer with the Soo-Line Railroad. Forever remembered as
a loving, giving man, he cared for Clara until the time of her death Nov. 8,
2008. He will be sadly missed by his best friend, his border collie, Spike.
He enjoyed playing Bingo, bowling, and fishing.
Survivors include his daughters, Denys (William) Kaskavitch of Weston, Darlene
(Pat Rossow) Kenowski of Neillsville, and Dyann (Kenneth) Rimer of Woodville. He
is also survived by eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, brother Carl
(Donna) of Appleton, and sister Judy (Michael) Vanlerberghe of Neenah.
He was preceded in death by his son Dan, a brother Richard, and a son-in-law,
Michael Kenowski.
The family appreciates the special care by the Ministry Hospice Services, and
the community of friends and staff he made at Pride TLC.
A Mass of Christian burial was held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 14, 2017, at St.
Bronislava Catholic Church, 3200 Plover Road, Plover. Burial with full military
honors followed in the St. Bronislava Parish Cemetery. Visitation was Friday
from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Pisarski Community
Funeral Home of Plover is honored to be serving the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bob’s name will be established at a later date.
