Barfknecht, Carl F. (3 JAN 1895 – 8 JAN 1969)
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 11, 1969 at the Holy Rosary
Catholic Church, Owen, for Carl Frederick Barfknecht, who died on Wednesday,
January 8, 1969, of a heart condition, at St. Joseph's Hospital at Marshfield.
Father H.L. Crubel will officiated at the service, with military rites to be
conducted by Van Huizen-Fritz American Legion, Post 123, Owen, at Riverside
Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Morris Martin, Joe Hiebsch, Lee Jensen, Otto
Engle, Ray Slock and Sam Nelson.
Mr. Barfknecht, 74, was born January 3, 1895 in Connecticut. In 1921 he was
married to Grace Kegel, who preceded him in death Jly 18, 1956. He was a dairy
farmer in the town of Hixon (Clark Co.), and worked for J.S. Owen Lumber
Company. He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, and during World
War I, served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his father, Frederick; two sisters, Elsie Barfknecht, Chicago,
Ill., and Mrs. Martha Davis, also of Chicago; two brothers, Frank of Norfolk,
Virginia, and Lloyd of Ladysmith; a son, Lawrence, of Marshfield; one daughter,
Mrs. John (Laura) Pokreits, Campbell, California; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace; three brothers, Emil, Fred and
Herman, and a daughter, Mary Marcellus.
