Gygi, Josephine M. (Oleksiuk) (12 MAY 1919 - 12 JUL 2017)

Josephine M. (Oleksiuk) Gygi, 98, Holcombe, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at the Cornell Area Care Center.

Josephine was born May 12, 1919, in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of Steve and Julia (Gluek) Oleksiuk. She married Raymond H. Gygi July 17, 1939.

She is survived by her children – Jacqueline (Gerald) Hawkenson, Beverly Gygi, Janel (Patrick) Weaver and Scott (Becky) Gygi; six grandchildren – Stephen (Tracy) Hawkenson, Heidi (David) Hegenbarth, Alicia (Nathan) Ostram, Ryan Weaver, Jessie (Gunnar) Wixstrom and Tyler Gygi; great-grandchildren – Reece and Nick Hawkenson, Arlan and Braden Hegenbarth, Lucas and Anna Geren, and Eva Ostram; and a sister-in-law – MaryJean (Gygi) Sievert.

She was preceded in death by her husband – Raymond H. Gygi; parents – Steve and Julia Oleksiuk; sister – Marie Walters; brother – Stephen Oleksiuk; 10 brothers-in-law; eight sisters-in-law; and stepfather – Carl Konney.

A private family graveside service will be held at the Holcombe Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Lake Holcombe High School Curriculum Fund in memory of Josephine M. Gygi.

Arrangements are being made by Borton-Leiser Funeral Home in Cornell.
