Yaeger, Burnell W. "Barney" (14 SEP 1929 – 20 JUL 2017)
Burnell W. “Barney” Yaeger, 87, Greenwood, passed away on Thursday, July 20,
2017, at the House of the Dove in Marshfield. Funeral services will be held at
11 a.m., on Friday, July 28, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood. Rev.
Charles Hiebl will officiate and burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic
Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Weyer, Jason Weyer, Mike
Hargesheimer, Denny Heidtke, Don Sykora and Leon Zwiefelhoffer. Visitation will
be held at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
Burnell Walter Yaeger was born on Sept. 14, 1929, in Marshfield, the son of
Walter J. and Esther E. (nee Haslow) Yaeger. He was raised and received his
education in Marshfield, graduating from Marshfield Senior High School in 1947.
Barney then attended Fond du Lac Business School and studied
accounting/bookkeeping. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on May 22, 1951, and
served until his honorable discharge on May 21, 1953. After returning from the
service, Barney went to work for Grassland Dairy in Greenwood as a bookkeeper.
He married Carol J. Schmitz on April 20, 1954, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in
Greenwood. They lived in Loyal for two years and then built a house in
Greenwood. He retired from Grassland in April 1995 after almost 41 years of
employment. During his retirement, Barney enjoyed spending time at their cabin
in Birchwood. He had many interests, but especially loved spending time with
family and friends, traveling, fishing, camping, bowling, and playing cards.
Barney was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Carol, of Greenwood; five children: D-Ann
Weyer of Marshfield, Jim (Sue) Yaeger of Eau Claire, Joan (Tim) Bayuk of
Wautoma, Mike Yaeger of Greenwood, and Pat (Jason) Lamovec of Willard; five
grandchildren: Jen (Mike) Hargesheimer of McKinney, Texas, Jeremy Weyer of
Marshfield, Jill (Scott) Esser of Christ Church, New Zealand, Jason (Becky)
Weyer of Verona, and Logan Bayuk of Stevens Point; seven great-grandchildren:
Reese, Ryan and Jace Hargesheimer, Aubrey and Ainsley Esser, and Alexis and
Isaac Weyer; one sister: Audrey Boushon of McFarland; one sister-in-law: Kitty
Yaeger of Sun Prairie; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Barney was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons: Chris Yaeger and
Austin Bayuk; and one brother: Orval Yaeger.
