Hornung, Kevin P. (14 JUN 1965 - 24 JUL 2017)
Kevin P. Hornung, 52, Marathon, died Monday, July 24, 2017, at Aspirus Wausau
Hospital.
He was born June 14, 1965, in Wausau, son of the late Lester and Marlene (Laumer)
Hornung. On July 23, 1994, he married Tammy Stencil at St. John Catholic Church,
Edgar. She preceded him in death on January 11, 2009.
Kevin was a veteran of the United States Army. For over 20 years, he has been
employed as a mechanic for County Materials Corp. Among his favorite pastimes,
he enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, dancing to polkas, NASCAR, riding
his Harley Davidson motorcycle and transporting his roaster for pig roasts to
several parties and events. Most of all, he loved camping at Sherwood Forest
Campground in Tomahawk with his wife, Tammy.
Survivors include three siblings, Michelle (Tom) Heil, Whitewater, Darin
Hornung, Marathon and Kim (Brian) Hilmershausen, Rhinelander; and many aunts and
uncles, nieces and nephews; and cousins and friends.
Besides his parents and wife, Tammy, he was preceded in death by his beloved
dog, “Zach.”
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at
St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Diermeier will preside.
Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Marathon, with full military honors
conducted by the American Legion Alois Dreikosen Post No. 469, Marathon.
Friends may call on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home,
Marathon, and again on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the
church. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral
home.
