Schreier, Gerald “Jerry” E. (11 SEP 1941 - 16 JUL 2017)
Gerald “Jerry” E. Schreier, 75, Marathon City, died unexpectedly Sunday, July
16, 2017 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born September 11, 1941 in Marathon, son of the late George and Edna (Rajek)
Schreier. On September 7, 1963 he married Genevieve “Jenny” Lee at Our Saviors'
Lutheran Church in Wausau. They resided for most of their married life in the
town of Cassel. She survives.
Jerry worked with Jenny at Marathon Cheese for a few years early in their
marriage, followed by a milk route for Cassel Garden Cheese Factory. He then
spent several years working for Myron Karlen Masonry before starting Schreier’s
Masonry where he worked alongside his family including his sons and brothers.
Jerry was a fan favorite at State Park Speedway in Rib Mountain and Tomahawk
Speedway driving his #14 bomber class car. He also drove the #3 car in honor of
his favorite racer, Dale Earnhardt, in the ice races around Central Wisconsin.
Some of his other enjoyments were playing cards at his sister's house and mowing
lawn on his John Deere mower. He spent many mornings with friends at Chad
Myszka's garage in Marathon City.
Survivors include his wife, Genevieve “Jenny”, Edgar. Children; Steven (Tom
Jerow), Rhinelander, Mark (Kathy), Edgar and James (Norb Schilling), Wausau;
grandchildren, AJ Schreier, Stevens Point, Kristin Schreier, Edgar and Warren
Goetsch, Merrill; siblings, James , Joseph (Maureen), Richard, Clifford, Robert
, David, John, Mary Ellen J. Volm, Darlene (Kenneth) Nowitzke, Ruth (Kenneth)
Wendt and Edna Jane Schreier; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and his
beloved cats, Piki and Talley.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie (Richard)
Goetsch, sisters; Joan and Elizabeth and brothers; Kenneth and Gary and one
brother-in-law, Richard Volm.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral
Home, Marathon. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Village of Maine.
Visitation will be Friday, July 21, 2017 from 4:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m. and again
on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the Marathon
funeral home.
