Laine, Neal A. (14 OCT 1900 – 22 MAR 1969)
Neal Albert Laine, prominent businessman in Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) for the past
48 years, succumbed to a heart condition Saturday at St. Joseph's Hospital in
Marshfield. He suffered a heart attack the previous Saturday, March 15, and had
been hospitalized since that time. He died late Saturday night, March 22, 1969.
He was 68 years, 5 months and 6 days of age, having been born October 14, 1900
in Finland. On July 20, 1920 he and the former Alvina Mattson were united in
marriage in a ceremony performed at Ironwood, Michigan. Shortly thereafter, they
moved to Owen, where he has since resided and served the community as a barber.
He was civic minded and active in community affairs. For 13 years he served on
the Common Council as Second Ward Alderman. At the time of his death he was a
member of the city's housing authority and he had been a member of the Kiwanis
Club, and was also a member of the Owen Community Club. He was an ardent
sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Funeral services were conducted at two o'clock Wednesday, March 26, at the
Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home, with Rev. Arvid Myhrwold, Greenwood, officiating.
Burial was made at Riverside Cemetery, Withee.
Serving as pallbearers were Kenneth Bombach, Richard Upjohn, Wm. And Jerry Mundt,
Robert Mattson and Emil Havelin.
Honorary pallbearers were Peter Madsen, C.N. McMillan, James Ferries, Ray
Conzemius, Foster Will, W.J. Mahoney Sr., and John Lokken.
He is survived by his wife, Alvina; a sister, Mrs. Mildred Jarvi, Port Arthur,
Ontario, Canada; and a brother, Lauri Laine, still living in Finland, and a
number of nieces and nephews.
