Haas, Thomas J. (10 SEP 1880 – 5 APR 1969)

Thomas J. Haas, one of the pioneer residents of Clark County, Wisconsin, died Saturday morning, April 5, 1969, after a short illness, in a nursing home in Dunedin, Florida.

He was born September 10, 1880, to George and Eleanor Haas near Mineral Point, Wisconsin. He was the youngest of nine children, and the last of his family to survive. In 1903 he came to the Withee area with his parents and purchased uncleared land on County Trunk N, south of Withee. He was married October 21, 1914 to LaMoine Powers of Owen.

For many years he served as clerk of the school board for Moody School in the Longwood Township. He was also a charter member of the local lodge of Royal Neighbors.

After his retirement he and his wife spent many winters in Florida, but would return to spend the summers on a small farm southwest of Withee. In 1963 he left the Withee area and spent his time visiting his sons and his home in Florida.

He is survived by his wife and his five sons, Tom, Salina, Kansas; Lloyd, Clearwater, Florida, Kermit, Council Bluffs, Iowa; Garry, Minneapolis; and Charles, La Crosse, Wisconsin. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and sever nephews and nieces.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, April 8, at the Methodist Church in Withee. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery. Officiating the service was Rev. Goessling.
