Two students from Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) were among the nearly 4,300 students
who were candidates for degrees at the University of Wisconsin commencement held
at historic Camp Randall, Madison, Monday morning, June 9th, 1969.
The two and the degrees received are Mary E. Hughes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
R.F. Hughes, Master of Arts, and Robert E. Haselow, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.R.
Haselow, Doctor of Medicine.
Almost 4,300 students filed across the commencement platform to receive
diplomas. Bachelor degrees were scheduled for more than 2,950 students, while
about 1,100 are scheduled for higher degrees, and 235 for law or medical
degrees.
The graduation ceremony highlights a weekend of intensive commencement activity
on Wisconsin's campus on June 8 and 9. A reception in honor of the graduates and
their parents was held Sunday evening, and Sunday afternoon an Honors
Convocation cited 957 students, largest number in history, for their fine
academic achievements during their university careers.
