Makkonen, Tina (3 MAR 1887 – 27 JUN 1969)
At two o'clock Monday afternoon, June 30, 1969, funeral services were conducted
from Bethany Lutheran Church, Owen, for Mrs. Tina Makkonen, 82, who passed away
Friday, June 27, 1960, at the Havenet Nursing Home, Owen.
Rev. H.W. Luetkehoelter, pastor of Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee,
officiating, and burial was made at Riverside Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Voitto Mutka, Hjalmer Heikkinen, Andrew Kallio, Kurt
Makkonen, Pentha Puro, and Kauno Niemi.
The former Tina Marin was born March 3, 1887 in Finland. She was married May 8,
1909 at Ironwood, Michigan, to Oscar Makkonen, who preceded her in death in
1961. The couple came to the Withee area (Clark Co., Wis.) in 1943 and operated
a farm in the town of Hoard until 1961, when she moved to Owen. For the past
four years she had been a resident of the Havenet Nursing Home.
She was a charter member of the Bethany Church and of its ladies aid.
Survivors include six children, Oscar Makkonen, Withee; Reino Makkonen, Topeka,
Ill.; Linda Makkonen, Chicago, Ill.; Sarah Makkonen, a missionary in Japan; Mrs.
Lester (Martha) Lurvey, Canada; Mrs. Into (Ruth) Liimatia, Hines, Oregon, and 11
grandchildren.
