Erickson, Emery (9 MAY 1914 – 18 JUL 1969)
It was saddening news Friday when the death of Emery Erickson was learned by
residents of the Owen and Withee area (Clark Co., Wis.), as he had been a
lifelong resident of the two communities, in addition to having been a highly
respected businessman in each of them.
He passed away at 2 a.m. Friday, July 18, 1969 at St. Joseph's Hospital
Marshfield, where he had been admitted on the 24th of June after suffering a
severe stroke.
A Requiem Mass was said by Fathers H.L. Crubel and Francis Brockman at the Holy
Rosary Catholic Church, Owen, at 10 o'clock Monday morning, July 21st. Interment
was made at Riverside Cemetery.
Six cousins, Gordon, Edward, Orville, Alvin, Harry and Roy Thorson, served as
pallbearers, while honorary pallbearers included W.K. Doonan, Pater Madsen,
Edward Wendt, C.N. McMillan, H.M. Wollum, Ray Conzemius, L.E. Bulgrin, C.O.
Albert, J. R. Barager, and Kenneth Tiedeman.
Emery Marion Erickson, 55, was a lifelong resident of this community, being born
May 9, 1914 at Longwood (Clark Co.). He was graduated from Owen High School and
immediately began a business career that spanned more than 30 years, in the feed
business, having first operated a mill at Longwood and later in Withee. He sold
his business in 1953, and since that time has been associated with the Master
Package Corporation, Owen, and was vice president in charge of sales at the time
of his death.
He was a member of the Holy Rosary Church, Owen; the Holy Name Society, and a
member of the Thorp Chapter of the Knights of Columbus, in addition to having
been an active civic and business leader and a charter member of the Withee
Lions Club.
His warm and sincere personality won him a host of friends who share his loss
with his mourners, who include his wife, Margaret (Mahoney), whom he married May
23, 1942 in a ceremony performed at Abbotsford; a son, James, at home; a
daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Karen) Haas, Menasha; two grandchildren and a
step-sister, Mrs. Louis (Elizabeth) Gruszynski, South Bend, Indiana.
