Rosemeyer, Justin L. “Rosy” (3 NOV 1923 - 9 AUG 2017)

Justin L. Rosemeyer, age 93, of Thorp, died at his home on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 1:35 a.m. with family at his side.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at St. Bernard’s /St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, Thorp. Fr. Janusz Kowalski officiated and burial followed in St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons: Jason Frankewicz, Ryan Bishop, Raymond Rosemeyer, Joel Frankewicz, Matt Chaplinki, Josh Rosemeyer, Cody Krzyzanowski, Justin and Andrew Rosemeyer.

Visitation was held at the Thorp Funeral Home on Monday, August 14 from 5-8 p.m. with at 7:30 p.m. Rosary service. Visitation was also held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday before the service.

Justin L. Rosemeyer “Rosy” was born on November 3, 1923 in Stanley to the late Raymond and Ida (Budden) Rosemeyer. After graduating from Stanley High School he continued his education at UW-River Falls until serving as a Flight Instructor in the Marine Air Corps.

He was united in marriage on Dec. 18, 1943 to MaryAnn Huls, in Corpus Christi, TX at the air base chapel. They moved back to Thorp in 1945, where he owned and operated Rosemeyer Excavating and Rosemeyer Bus Service. He and Mary Ann also raised a family of eight children.

Justin had many interests but especially enjoyed hunting with his sons and grandsons. He also enjoyed carpentry, gardening, working on his yard, spending time with his children and was involved in the Knight of Columbus, and loved singing for the congregation of his church.
Justin was also active in civic organizations. He was the Mayor of Thorp and an alderman for many years. He was also a member of the Thorp Fire Dept., Thorp American Legion, and the Thorp Lions Club. Not known to all, but known to a select few, Rosy was also a member of the Marine Air Corp Birthday Club held annually at S & K Body Shop in Thorp.

He is survived by two sons: Richard (Esther) Rosemeyer and Michael (Anna) Rosemeyer both of Thorp; five daughters: Mary (Ed) Chaplinski of Gilman, Chris (Steve) Frankewicz of Thorp, Lori (Dave) Bishop of Gilman, Anne (Mike) LaVick of Thorp, Stephenie (Allan) Krzyzanowski of Thorp; one son-in-law: Ron Lemke of Brookfield, WI; 18 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; 18 great-great grandchildren; two sisters: Marcelle (Jim) Podvin of Waupun, WI and Sr. Rebecca Rosemeyer of Dubuque, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary Ann, 4 brothers: Raymond, Charles, Robert, and Eugene; 1 sister: Norma Gamrath; 1 daughter, Connie Lemke, 1 great-granddaughter, Raven Rosemeyer, and 1 great-great granddaughter, Ava Micklas.
